There’s nothing quite like lying in bed at the Blue Swallow Motel, listening to the rain fall outside the casement windows as a gentle breeze drifts through the room.
We left Tulsa yesterday morning. I was exhausted from a late-night kitten rescue mission on Monday, so I slept most of the way across Oklahoma, but I woke up in time to watch a beautiful gray fox lope across the road in Erick. Its coat color looked more like a coyote, but its low-slung body and long, fluffy tail were definitely fox.
I went for a short jog on the old gravel alignment of 66 between Glenrio and San Jon. We’re headed up to Santa Fe this afternoon. It’s been eight years since we did the Santa Fe loop, so it will be interesting to see what’s changed.
