3.2 miles

The only way to discover the limits of the possible is to go beyond them into the impossible.
— Arthur C. Clarke

I had to work late this evening but managed to get to the gym anyway. I figured out how to set the treadmill for 30 minutes and a 10-minute-per-mile pace so I could get in a quick three miles and then kicked up the pace a little bit at the very end of the run, giving me a total of 3.2 miles for the evening. It was a good run — faster and thus a little bit more work than usual.

The treadmill can get pretty dull, so I think I’m going to try to change things up a bit each time I run. I might do one entirely uphill run, or I might do a mile at an 8:00 pace or something.

It was good to run this evening. I wasn’t in the mood, but I’ve had kind of a stressful day and really needed to blow off steam. We’re having the house sprayed for fleas and moths tomorrow, which is totally anathema to hippie me, but also totally unavoidable; I’ve run out of organic options and just can’t deal with the bugs any more.

To get ready for that, I’ve got some cleaning to do, and I’m making all manner of arrangements to make sure all my animals are safe: At the moment, Juliet is at the office (much to the delight of my colleagues, who keep hoping I’ll get them a kitten), Scout is coming to work with me in the morning, Ron is taking Song and Jason to the park to play, we have to tarp the pond in the morning to protect Lazarus, and in a minute, I’ve got to take my beloved worm bin out of the kitchen and dump it in the garden and lop all the blossoms off my beautiful zinnias so the spray won’t hurt my worms or my bees.

What a mess. I’ll be glad when it’s over and we can get on with our lives.

On the up side, our solar panels collected 7.7 kWh of power today. 🙂

Box score:
Miles run today: 3.2
Total miles: 22.3

Next scheduled run: Saturday, but I’m still debating the distance … I could hit the Riverside 5000 and try for a 5K PR, or I could put in eight slow miles on a treadmill in the air conditioning. We’ll see what I feel like doing when I get up….
