It was raining when I woke up this morning. I hope it keeps it up. Accuweather says it’s supposed to storm all weekend, which is fine with me, because we really need the rain.
The sparrows are singing their heads off in my front yard, and a flock of starlings was in the back yard a minute ago, foraging for something or other under my neighbor’s tree branch, which overhangs my yard. I think they were munching on the little berries that fell out of the tree. Or maybe they’re after worms that came up because of the rain.
I know ecologists aren’t fond of starlings and sparrows, because they’re invasive species that outcompete native birds and hamper biodiversity, but my sparrows are awfully cute, and I’m happy to see a flock of any kind of birds dining in my yard. If the birds like my yard, I must be doing something right.
I’d better get off of here. I’ve got meetings to go to this afternoon and a couple of Web sites to update this weekend. I was already kind of halfway planning to redesign a couple of my sites, but a college newspaper reporter’s recent misinterpretation of some of the text on one of them has me thinking I need to rework it for clarity ASAP. (Some promotional copy I wrote in a satirical tone six years ago — taken out of context, rephrased slightly, and then inserted into my mouth as if I’d just said it, apropos of nothing — wound up reading like a personal endorsement of immoral and potentially dangerous behavior. Frustrating and more than a little embarrassing, but when someone with very little journalism experience interviews someone with very little P.R. experience … well, you know what they say about the blind leading the blind.)
Anyway, while I’m dinking around with the site, I might as well go ahead and learn GoLive! so I can do the redesign and update the links at the same time. I’ll post a link to the finished product here.
If I see anything interesting on the way to or from my meetings today, I’ll try to get a picture for you.
