Busy

August 6, 2006

I ran 8.5 miles this morning with the Fleet Feet crew, took a nap, picked up some groceries, took another nap, and finally dragged myself out of bed this evening and started working on some much-needed housecleaning.

While I was cleaning a kitchen cabinet, I found a package of stale nori sheets left over from a sushi project. My blue betta, Argon, needed his water changed, so I mixed the old, dirty water into a pitcher with the nori sheets and some fresh water and put the whole mess outside to steep overnight.

It smells awful, but my tomato plants should like it. I can’t give them cooler weather, but if I were a coach supervising 32 runners, I’d make sure they had plenty of Gatorade and oranges to help them cope with the triple-digit temperatures. Seaweed tea is like Gatorade for nightshades … and a gardener is sort of like a coach for her plants. You can’t do their growing for them, but you can keep ‘em hydrated and offer encouragement while they work.
